CI5: The New Professionals
(9.30pm Saturday, Seven)
THE Professionals was an action-packed
hit British series that ran from 1978-'83
and starred Gordon Jackson as George Cowley,
founder of an elite anti-terrorist group
called CI5.
This
sequel/remake puts Edward Woodward in
the lead role as the latest boss of CI5,
still paying homage to Cowley (there is
a photo of Jackson on Woodward's office
wall) and urging his men, as Cowley did,
to keep England safe and "smelling, even
if ever so faintly, of roses and lavender".
The
original series featured two operatives
named Bodie and Doyle (Lewis Collins and
Martin Shaw) and the new version has a
similar dynamic duo. The only tweak to
the story is that one is British (Sam
Curtis played by Colin Wells) and the
other American (Chris Keel played by Kal
Weber). Together, they battle international
crime using the latest weaponry, surveillance
and communications and, yes, they always
come up smelling like roses.
