Wilderness Men
First of three
docu-dramas about some of history's great
explorers kicks off with Meriwether Lewis
and William Clark's 1803 expedition to
find the North-West Passage.
Lewis (Kal Weber,
far left) enlisted old army friend Clark
(Glenn Wrage, left) to help him lead a
journey that he expected to last 18 months,
but it actually took two and a haff years.
The pair travelled up the Missouri River
by boat then continued overland by boat
and foot, ending up in what is now Oregon.
The North-West
Passage turned out to be a myth, but they
returned home with tales of strange animals
and encounters with Indians, including
the legendary Sacagawea. Lewis couldn't
cope with a desk job and died in violent
circumstances three years later.
